Donna Phalen -Painter

My creative expression stems from a deep desire to capture, preserve and share the beauty I see.

I have been painting for about 6 years now and am self taught. Watercolor is my favourite medium, however, I have worked in acrylic, silk painting, glass etching and have recently tried encaustic art and pottery.

I take a lot of time  in creation putting in the detail and trying to capture the true essence of each piece.

Sue Whittaker - Writer

Sue Whittaker is a long-time Osoyoos resident, Arts Council member and one of the founders of the O’s Own writers. Sue’s writing was featured in the anthology, “Sharing the Well” and she is involved in the upcoming O’s Own publication, “Whispering Down the Well”, an anthology of stories about women.

Sue’s first creative endeavour in the arts sector, was watercolour painting. Her paintings hang in many local homes. The Osoyoos Credit Union has, for many years, featured one of her paintings as the main door prize at its Annual General Meeting in April. She still has an active studio.

Writing takes up most of her spare time these days. With local illustrator, Gina Harfman, she published “Songs for Keira Bean – Poems to Grow With”. She is presently working on the poems for a companion book to be called, “Poems for Spencer Lucas – Stuff That Happens”.

Sue can be found selling her books at the Osoyoos Farmers’ Market in the summer, reading to children at Library Hour, and sharing her book with local primary classes. Sue and Gina are frequently invited to hold autograph opportunities at Osoyoos businesses which sell “Songs for Keira Bean”.

There are many opportunities to establish new friendships and contribute to the cultural fabric of our wonderful small town. Joining a local arts group can be a window into a new world of fun. This has certainly been the case for Sue Whittaker. “Membership definitely has its rewards” she says.
